An admirable example of how one community organisation in Hucknall can help another is a partnership forged between Hucknall Round Table and FALCON SWIMMING CLUB.
Both are long-standing institutions in the town, so it seemed appropriate that the Round Table passed on some of its fundraising cash for good causes to Falcon, which has helped thousands of local youngsters enjoy their swimming over the years.
The Table, which is for men aged 18 to 45, presented a cheque for £578. It was handed over at Falcon’s headquarters, the Hucknall Leisure Centre pool, by the organisation’s community service officer, Daniel Hayes.
The cheque was received by Chloe Melvin, the 18-year-old daughter of Falcon’s head coach, Ian Melvin, and she will partly benefit from the donation.
Chloe, who has been with the club since November 2009, has coached Falcon swimmers in the development squad for the last four years, giving sterling service. The money will go towards her level-two coaching award, which will increase her teaching knowledge and ability.
Part of the Round Table donation will also support Falcon’s annual presentation fun day, which is to be held on Saturday 11th July. The event is designed to showcase the achievements of the club’s 110 swimmers in the development and main squads who devote up to 15 hours per week to the sport. They range in ages from eight to 18 and include youngsters who compete at national and Midland levels.
