EVERYTHING looks ROSE-y for Newstead Abbey as their promotion bid in Division C of the Gunn And Moore South Notts League looks to be in good NICK.

For Nick Rose the batsman and Nick Hand the bowler were the star performers as the locals secured an important 52-run win over strugglers Kirkby Portland to cement their position in third place.

First Rose grabbed the limelight as he played a crucial unbeaten knock in Newstead’s innings to score almost half their total with a composed 64.

He was the only player to find the answer to twin bowlers Ashley Severn (four for 37) and Tom Newcombe (two for 27).

The visitors would have had ambitions of overhauling their target when they set off on their innings, but Nick Hand had other ideas.

For he went on to claim six wickets for just 30 runs as Steve Richardson (21) was the only opposition batsman to make any telling contribution.
