THE HIGH-scoring entertainers of local football in the Hucknall and Bulwell area have been rewarded in the culmination of the Dispatch’s innovative Specsavers Goals Awards competition.
We launched the competition last season — thanks to sponsorship from Specsavers’ branch on Hucknall High Street.
The aim was to recognise ace marksmen and the teams with a keen eye for goal.
Prizes of £100 were up for grabs for the highest-scoring teams and players in league and cup football on Saturdays and Sundays.
And now the cheques have been presented to the winners by Stephen Archer, director and optometrist at the Specsavers branch.
Winners in the Saturday category were Boots Athletic (102 goals) and their top marksman, Kev Walker (38 goals).
While on Sundays, both cheques also went to the same club — Real Empire. They rattled in 109 goals and their top poacher was Phillip Gouldby, who grabbed 38.
Mr Archer said: “We were only too pleased to back the Goals Awards. Football plays a big part in the lives of people in Hucknall, and we are delighted to support that.”
