Weather-busting PAPPLEWICK AND LINBY 2ND worked a minor miracle to get their ground fit for a Mansfield Sunday League, Section Four clash against Sherwood Colliery 3rd.
And they were handsomely rewarded by an easy ten-wicket victory that maintained their form of last season when they were crowned runaway champions of Section Five on the back of just one defeat.
After heavy overnight rain, only three matches took place in the entire eight-division league. But Steve Betteridge’s team wasted no time in disposing of Sherwood, who arrived at Papplewick Hall with just eight players.
Betteridge won the toss and inserted the visitors, who were skittled for only 77, most of which was made by opener Steve Hunt, who carred his bat for an unbeaten 49 that included five boundaries.
No other batsman mustered double figures, with the wickets shared by Alex Hudson (three for 22 in 8.1 overs), Dan Simpson (two for 13 in seven) and George Blatherwick (two for 19 in ten).
Papplewick then knocked off the runs in the hands of openers Tom Simpson (41 not out, seven fours) and Sam Paulson (30 not outl, five fours) inside 12 overs.
Among the games cancelled without a ball being bowled were the Premier Section clash between Farnsfield and HUCKNALL and another Section Four fixture involving BYRON ABBEY.
