Rollers bid for hat-trick of finals

HOPES rose of a THIRD successive appearance in the Notts Senior League’s Senior Cup final after a comfortable First Round win for HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE.

The 4-3 scoreline suggests Senior Division Rolls were given a fright by Second Division West Bridgford.

But in truth, they were always in control, despite losing goalkeeper Mark Rollson to injury at half-time.

Now they will be eyeing that final hat-trick after narrow defeats at the hands of FC Cavaliers and Boots Athletic in the last two campaigns.

Bridgford are among the promotion-chasers in their division and have also reached the quarter-finals of the Notts FA Intermediate County Cup. And when Jurgen Charlesworth gave them an early lead, they sensed an upset.

However The Rollers quickly turned things round to lead 2-1 and after a Bridgford equaliser from Luke Hutchins by the interval, two goals early in the second period largely killed the tie. The home side only snatched their third goal late on, courtesy of Charlesworth.

The locals’ scorers were strikers Andy Start and Kyle McDermott, who netted two apiece, while the stand-in goalkeeper hero was defender Aaron Short.

ROLLS LINE-UP (4-4-2) — Rollson/ Niblett, Tolley, Short, Osbourne/ Brooks, Murray, Solomon, Wallis/ Start A., McDermott. Subs used: Buckley (for Rollson 45), Poole (for Niblett 65).
