A STEP-UP in class saw HUCKNALL SPORTS UNDER-10S WHITE win the main cup competition at the Priory Celtic Tournament with an unbeaten record.
The locals won the Plate competition at the event last year but this year entered the main draw and kicked things off with a tense, but solid, 0-0 with a strong Wilford Lions team.
A dominant display saw Sports beat Breaston Park Red 1-0 before battling back from 2-1 down to secure a brave 2-2 draw with host team Priory Celtic.
Qualification was hanging in the balance in the final group game. But Sports shone to hammer Aspley Park White 5-0 and top the table.
Again defensive strength proved crucial as Sports beat Debdale United 1-0 in the quarter finals.
Against a physical Wollaton Hall Yellows outfit in the last four, Sports counted themselves unlucky not to win in normal time after a 1-1 stalemate.
It was down to the lottery penalties and after it finished 1-1 after the first three, Sports held their nerve in sudden death.
That prepared them for another shootout in the final after it finished 0-0 with local-derby rivals Rolls-Royce Leisure after normal time.
Again Sports triumphed with Kieran Johnson netting the crucial spot-kick for a 2-1 win.
