Paralympic star Charlotte back in club colours

Excited at the prospect of wearing the black & gold Sherwood colours again, Charlotte will compete in the 100m breaststroke and lines up alongside youth and senior swimmers, Robert Barton, Connor Smith, Sebastian Smith, Nathan Staley, Lewis Steptoe, Shannon Brown, Hannah Carnell, Jade Clarke, Imogen Gould, Olivia Gould, Emily Waldram and Esme Wood, all aged 15 years and over, in a bid to decide Youth/Senior County Champion titles across a number of different strokes and distances.

The equivalent event for Sherwood’s Age Group swimmers (9-14-year-olds) takes place throughout March.

With almost 60 swimmers qualifying across both the Youth and Age Group events, Sherwood are fielding their largest ever County Championship squad, and head coach, Ian Negus, is excited at the prospect of seeing some of the club’s younger swimmers competing at this level for the very first time.

Away from County Championship preparations, Sherwood swimmers claimed their third successive gala win last weekend after another hugely creditable performance at the Minor Trophy Gala, hosted by Worksop.

Designed specifically for swimmers aged 13 and under, the youngsters proved themselves more than capable of performing on the big occasion, pocketing a number of personal best swims between them to win by over 40 points ahead of second-placed Bramcote.

Sherwood ended with a total of 242 points to win ahead of second-placed Bramcote on 202, Sutton SC with 189, Ripley with 177, Mansfield with 154 and Worksop, 139.

Coaches Ian Negus and Gary Butcher said that they were proud of the young swimmers for how they performed on the day.
