RACELINE: TIP OF THE DAY Thursday, 31st January

With the worst of the wintry weather apparently over, jumps racing is now back in full swing. After another winner yesterday, here is the selection of our resident tipster:

SYDNEY PAGET

Towcester 1.20 WIN

Judging by his strike rate, leading northern trainer Donald McCain knows what it takes to win novice or beginners’ chases, particularly when he’s saddling the favourite and often here at Towcester. So he boasts a prime candidate for honours in this six-year-old son of Flemensfirth. A 3m slog on saturated ground at arguably the stiffest track in the country is sure to provide a gruelling test. But it’s one that McCain’s charge is guaranteed to relish. A useful novice hurdler last season, he’s made a satisfactory switch to fences and is long overdue a victory as he matures into a staying handicapper.
