Basford hoping local EFL fans can help cheer them on to a giantkilling on Saturday

With all three of the county’s EFL clubs away from home this weekend, Basford are hoping the Nottinghamshire public will help cheer them through their Third Qualifying Round tie.

The winners will receive £5,000 prize money and enter the First Round proper of the competition on Saturday, 15th December.

Basford manager Martin Carruthers said: “It will be a great benchmark for us to see how far away we are from the next level above which is obviously where we want to get to.

“I watched the video of their game last weekend and they look a really good side. To go 2-0 up away at Blyth is no mean feat so we know they are very dangerous on the break.

“They have pace and energy and look really organised out of possession. They press together as a unit so I’m sure they will make it really difficult for us.

“They played some excellent football and they will certainly be favourites but I’m hopeful we can give a really good account of ourselves on the day.

“They will relish playing on our surface. Normally it’s an advantage to us, but due to the way they play it will suit their style as well.”

Basford chairman Chris Munroe is in no doubt that the Nottinghamshire footballing public can massively influence Basford’s chances of progress.

He said: “The way the fixtures have fallen means all three professional clubs in the county are away this Saturday.

“We are promoting high value and low admission prices, with £9 adults and £6 concessions. The family offer at £15 for families of four is high value.”

Season tickets and members cards are not valid for this match.

Basford go into the games with nine wins in 11 homes games this season and are currently on an eight game unbeaten run in all competitions.

The Greenwich Avenue ground is just 100 metres from the Highbury Vale tram stop and is easily accessible.

Team-wise Nat Watson is a doubt but other than Matt Thornhill, who is still away, Basford will have the same squad as for their Warrington game last week.
