Busy week can help Hucknall regain their momentum

Hucknall Town are hoping they can regain their momentum in the busy week ahead after being rocked by a late postponement last weekend.

After romping to 6-2 and 11-3 away wins, the title-chasing Yellows were told on Friday that Saturday’s home game with Ashland Rovers was off due to the visitors’ inability to field a full side.

However, Hucknall roar back into action with three games in eight days this week, starting with a tough game at Holbrook St Michaels, where they have failed to win in their last two trips.

“Saturday’s postponement was very frustrating as it just breaks that momentum,” said boss Andy Graves.

“Hopefully we can pick it back up this weekend, though it’s a difficult game at Holbrook St Michaels.

“It’s been a bit of a bogey ground for us the last couple of seasons, drawing them both.

“We have had some horrendous games there so we will need to be on it on Saturday.”

A busy week follows and Graves added: “Our Notts Senior Cup game has now been brought forward a week to next Wednesday.

“Calverton have a problem with their floodlights so they’ve reversed the fixture to us.

“That gets us two quick games and then we have a home game the following weekend against Holbrook Sports. Hopefully we can pick our momentum back up with the three quick games.”

Graves faces selection problems of a good kind at the weekend.

“We go into Saturday’s game with everyone available for the first time in weeks so that should be interesting,” he said.

“One or two who need minutes are playing in a midweek reserve friendly game, so we should go into Saturday all fit and hopefully we can put on a performance that we’ve failed to do the last two season at Holbrook St Michaels.

“They are a good side and they’re doing well this season.”

Hucknall are still awaiting more news on when work will begin on their new ground, adjacent to their current Watnall Road home.

Graves said: “The ground situation is what it is. I think we’ve just had some travellers on there but they disappeared fairly quickly.

“We’ve been told we should be in it by this time next year.

“It will be dependent on weather and other things, but I believe they are going to start the main work after Christmas so fingers crossed.”
