Hucknall touched by Sherwood fund-raising game gesture

Manager Andy Graves was touched by a call from Sherwood boss Wayne Savage.

“He offered to play a game for our skipper to help him out with his money situation, which was very kind of him as Joe is still off work,” said Graves.

“It was a brilliant touch. He didn’t have to do that as they were not even the club involved.

“I get on quite well with him and I respect him. We have had our little fall-outs here and there but both respect each other and we’ve been in touch quite a lot.

“Good luck to them on their promotion too.”

Hucknall return for pre-season training this Saturday ahead of a first friendly on Thursday, 5th July at Oadby Town and Graves is frustrated the league have been unable to confirm the teams in the division as yet.

“Pre-season starts at 1pm at the ground this Saturday and we are all geared up, ready for it,” he said.

“I am pleased with the way are looking squad-wise. On Saturday we’ll finally be able to get some of them on paper as you can’t sign anyone before 1st July. That’s when you know you’ve definitely got them and I will be happy.

“We have had discussions but anything can happen.

“There are four or maybe five new lads I want to sign. I don’t need to make wholesale changes. We only need to add where we need to -a goalkeeper, a striker and probably another midfielder.

“But I have already had emails from people asking if they can come and have a trial and you don’t know who you might find among them.

“The first pre season game at Oadby on 7th July is likely to be just new faces. It will be a good standard against them so if they can perform at that level, they should be okay with us. It will be a good chance to watch them away from the pressure of playing at home in front of our own supporters.”
