Looking at league table will drive you crazy says Hucknall boss

They have only dropped four points all season but nerves are jangling as leaders Pinxton, only beaten once, keep on winning.

“I keep saying forget about everybody else’s performances and what other teams are doing and let’s just concentrate on ourselves. That’s the biggest thing,” said Graves.

“Everyone has got to do that – Supporters, committee, me, the players.

“Don’t look at the league table – that will send you crazy.”

Graves said his high-scoring side could not expect to run up big scores every game.

“We have to remember we are not going to be beating teams six, seven, 11 or whatever every week,” he said.

“There will be games when you have to roll up your sleeves and it’s less about football and more about grit, determination and trying to overcome a team that’s trying to frustrate you.

“They are the games in which you come unstuck so hopefully we won’t repeat that.”

Hucknall came up against their former keeper Mike Randall last weekend and took the points, despite the keeper starring for Blidworth.

“Blidworth played similar to how they played at their ground the other week and we had to break them down again – but finally we did,” said Graves.

“We missed a few chances and Mike did well in his first game since he left us.

“He gave one of those first half performances where he was the difference.

“But we finally beat him before half-time and then scored two more in the second half.

“We had to respond after the Holbrook game and we did.”

Leaders Pinxton won 2-1 over Holbrook St Michaels to keep their grip on top spot, but Graves said: “It sounds like it was another good game.

“I don’t know all the details but I understand Holbrook had a player sent off after five minutes. There was obviously a far stronger referee than we had the week before.

“So with 10 men it’s a good result and not a bad performance against Pinxton.”
