Second half revival sees North Notts home against Warwick

North Notts manager Jay Faulkner said: “That was another good win today with us performing at about 50 per cent in the first half and 70 per cent in the second. We know we can do more and will continue to build.

“The 6-2 score probably flatters us, but the league is quite open and we feel we can beat any team on our day. This week we travel to Wolverhampton with two key players missing, but confidence is high.”

With the return of Marc Johnson in goal after his one-year absence and Josh Singleton back after missing last week’s romp against Kings Heath Pickwick, Notts had a sprightly start against the university side.

Notts drew first blood when an early foray into the University defence from Smith almost paid dividends after a slick interchange with Allen Butler saw the resulting effort go wide of the post.

But inventive attacking paid off for Notts in the 10th minute, when Jason Barton deflected a driven pass from Allen Butler into the goal to take a 1-0 lead.

A number of chances to deliver a bigger blow to the University side were blown, but Notts held control of the game.

However, Notts were punished when a speculative shot found its way past keeper Lowrey to level the score at 1-1 at half-time.

A shaky start to the second half for Notts saw Warwick go ahead at 2-1 with a strike into the corner. This was the jolt the home side needed to kickstart the game and put Warwick to the test and Alex Greer made no mistakes to level out the scoresagain in the 49th minute.

Notts didn’t rest and soon took the lead again when Antony Clay picked up the ball deep in the Notts’ half and rampaged into the Warwick University defence, William Butler effortlessly slapping the ball into the net.

It took only 10 minutes for Butler to find the net for a second time, taking the home side’s lead to 4-2.

The away team pushed on with a series of dangerous attacks, keeping Lowrey on his toes with several good saves.

Notts counter attacked and soon increased their lead to 5-2, when a defence mix-up left Josh Singleton with an easy opportunity.

In the dying minutes Russ Jarvis delivered a drag flick that was deflected into the goal by Jason Barton, making it his second of the match at 6-2.

This creditable victory saw Jason Barton take the man of the match award.
