Sutton swimmers impress at Leicester Open

A squad of 10 Sutton Swimming Club members performed admirably and came back with some great medals over three days of intense competition at the City of Leicester Open Meet, which saw swimmers from all over the country competng.

Mia Fergie (12) led the way by winning three gold medals in the 11/12yrs age group for her efforts in 100m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke.

Mia already has a large number of Midland Qualification Times and will now compete in the Midland Age Group Championships at Coventry in June full of confidence from this successful weekend.

Older sister Neve Fergie (14) had a great weekend winning gold in the 13/14yrs age group 400m freestyle in a new PB of 4.26.56, just 0.2 seconds outside of the National Qualification Time.

Neve also won a silver medal for her efforts in the 200m freestyle event, again in a new PB time of 2.09.11.

To add to her medal haul, Neve also won a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle so Neve can also look forward to the Midland Age Group Championships with great confidence.

Lauren Quinn (15) swam a new 100m backstoke PB of 1.07.15 to reach the final of the 15yrs/Open age group where she won the silver medal in a time just outside of her heat swim.

She also secured the Midland Qualification Time in the 100m freestyle by swimming a PB time of 1.01.92.

Lauren also swam a PB in the 200m backstroke event of 2.23.54 to improve her existing Midland entry time. In just three weeks time Lauren will swim in her first Midlands Youth Championships at Corby.

In the 100m backstroke event, two other Sutton swimmers swam personal best times to secure their required Midland Qualification Times. Chloe Peach (13) swam 1.11.42 and Chloe Quinn (11) 1.18.83. Both Chloes also swam other PBs over the weekend to improve on their existing Midland Qualification Times.

Owen Harding (9) achieved three PBs out of his three swims on the final day of competition, Daniel Johnston (15) also achieved thre PBs out of his three swims over the weekend, Jim Fergie (12) achieved two PBs, Sophie Bunker (14) swam one PB and Sam Creak (17) also swam one PB.

Sam Creak also reached his first ever 15yr/Open final in this high level of competition and finished a credible seventh place in the 100m butterfly event.
