Yorkshire give chase after Hales’ heroics

Alex Hales was dismissed for 236 on the second morning of Nottinghamshire’s LV= County Championship match against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge.

The 26-year old, unbeaten on a career best 222 overnight, lasted for a further 38 minutes before being bowled by Steven Patterson as the home side’s first innings ended on 428 all out.

Patterson emerged with figures of three for 79 for the visitors, with Jack Brooks collecting three for 99.

Brooks had picked up the opening wicket of the day, bowling Vernon Philander for 7 and the innings was wrapped up by Tim Bresnan, who fired one through Jake Balls’ defence after being heaved away for six from the previous delivery.

Yorkshire made a confident start to their reply, reaching 62 without loss by lunch, with Will Rhodes on 39 not out and Alex Lees on 23.
