A firm favourite on the live scene, the legendary Vin Garbutt will be in in concert at Holloway’s Florence Nightingale Memorial Hall on Saturday, April 25, from 7.30pm.

After resting for a few months Vin is back on the road, and the venue is proud to welcome him back to Holloway for his third visit.

He will be supported in the concert by local group All ‘n’ Sundry.

Vin’s career has spanned over 40 years of constant worldwide touring which must make him some kind of elder statesman of folk.

His songs were inspired by the folk tradition at the beginning of his career - they still are - but have transformed into gritty social comment and life observations.

He is renowned for his hilarious intros but for him his song lyrics are the crux of his performance.

The English Folk Dance and Song Society said of him: “Vin grasps those he meets firmly by the hand and shakes them up with a dose of laughter and tears.

“It’s a true gift to be able to make us laugh and squirm at the same time, but Vin does both.

“He should be prescribed on the National Health.”

BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Nominee for Best Folk Singer and Best Live Act Awards 2001, winner of BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Best Live Act Award 2001, Vin has also received an Honorary Degree of Master of Arts from Teesside University in 2001 for his music and his services to the arts and culture of the area of the North East of England in particular.

He was also BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Nominee for Best Live Act Award in 2007.

Tickets to see him in action at Florence Nightingale Memorial Hall in Holloway are available from Dave on 01773 856545.
