Sutton ramblers hit the canals

The Sutton Rambling Club continue their wide-ranging summer rambles programme with a gentle 12.5 mile linear ramble focusing on the Chesterfield Canal on Sunday.

The canal is regarded asone of the most beautiful and varied waterways in the country and runs from Chesterfield to West Stockwith.

The ramble will explore the section between Renishaw and Worksop.

In the morning the walk will head north from Renishaw to Killamarsh.

The route will also take in the western portal of Norwood Tunnel which is the summit of the canal and skirt village of Wales.

The afternoon section passes the nearby Eastern portal of Norwood Tunnel and follows the canal to the edge of Worksop.

Descending towards the Trent Valley this interesting walk then takes the group by a number of locks and beautiful woodland.

The section from Kiveton Park to Shireoaks is acknowledged as one of the prettiest canal walks in the country.

There will be the opportunity for an mid afternoon tea break near Neverthorpe and after exploring the village of Rhodesia.

The coach will depart for the short journey home at approximately 6.30pm.

The McEwns/Skills coach picks up at the Staff Of Life pub in Sutton at 9.15am and at the Bancroft Lane end of Stockwell Gate (outside the Asda supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points between these locations. The coach fare is £9,accompanied juniors free
