Have a ball with Cinders

Derby Theatre’s big festive production will be a fun and feisty re-telling of Cinderella.

It can be seen at the city centre venue from Friday, December 4, to Saturday, January 9, and will be a family-friendly retelling of the famous tale, performed by a merry band of actor-musicians.

Playing the central role of Cinderella, will be the returning Derby-born Esmé Sears, following her appearance in last year’s production of A Christmas Carol for Derby Theatre.

Esme’s main credits include playing the role of Trixiekin in Fairyland the Musical and productions for the Drama Studio in London including The Comedy of Errors and Romeo & Juliet.

Also back from A Christmas Carol will be Chris Price for his fourth production at Derby Theatre.

Chris’s other credits include The Tempest for Northern Stage, Macbeth for the Mercury Theatre in Colchester, plus the role of the Riddler in the international tour of Batman Live.

Cinderella is adapted by Olivier award-winning Mike Kenny. Mike is one of England’s leading writers, specialising in young people’s theatre.

He is the recipient of numerous awards, was included in the Independent on Sunday’s list of Top Ten Living UK Playwrights and his plays are performed regularly throughout the UK and all over the world.

Directing Cinderella is Sarah Brigham, artistic director of Derby Theatre. She explained: “I am thrilled with the wonderful cast we have assembled for our big festive production for this year and delighted to be bringing another classic tale to local audiences. “

She added: “The story is full of magic and sparkle and our version will be a fun and stylish interpretation for all the family.”
