Palace Theatre date for Gazza

Mansfield Palace Theatre and HS Presents have announced details of an exciting new show taking place at the venue next year.

On Friday, May 19, you can see An Audience with Paul Gascoigne, a night of entertainment including comedy, music, football, tears and so much more.

Paul Gascoigne’s football career is particularly remembered for his England caps. He earned 57 appearances for his country and is described by the National Football Museum as “the most naturally gifted English midfielder of his generation”.

Gazza - as he is affectionately known by sports fans - was part of the squad that reached fourth place in the 1990 World Cup, where he was famously reduced to tears after receiving a yellow card in the semi-final with West Germany, meaning he would be suspended for the final itself, had England won the game.

Gascoigne also helped the England team to the semi-finals of Euro 1996, once again embedding himself in the nation’s hearts and minds with a spectacular goal against Scotland - coupled with a memorable goal celebration.

His illustrious career at club level included spells with Newcastle United, Spurs, Lazio, Middlesbrough, Rangers and Everton.

After retiring from professional football, Gascoigne’s life became dominated by emotional problems, including alcoholism. His personal struggles have received regular coverage in the British press. He has
