Review: Dirty Dancing at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal

An invigorating feel-good spectacular following the film with perfect precision, this stunning stage show expertly re-lived every magical moment, from ‘I carried a watermelon’ to ‘Nobody puts Baby in a corner’ for a mouth-watering mix of nostalgia and modern pizazz.

Hungry eyes were on Lewis Kirk as the leather-clad Love Manstrutted his superb stuff as Johnny Castle, captivating the packed house with his sizzling Swayze sway, making light, luscious work ofone of the most iconic roles in movie history.

And whilst gorgeous Penny (Claire Rogers) and the raunchy ‘staff’expertly gyrated their saucy way through a medley of hit favourites, ingenious casting of the innocent, bouncy-bobbed Baby saw Jessie Hart win over the crowd as a movie mirror-image.

Packed with heart-stopping romance, sizzling sexy dancing, pitch-perfect vocals and a dash of comedy, this spectacular smash-hit stage show is entertainment at its epic best - a must for Dirty Dancing addicts and newcomers alike.

Not a note off key, not a foot out of place, every last one of this enthusiastic, energetic cast can really move. So much so that you’ll be practising your Pachanga or conjuring up a little Mambo Magic asyou shimmy your way back to the car park!
