Theatre Uncut event at city venue

James Varney, a Lancaster University graduate, is to produce and direct the project, which aims to encourage debate and urge action surrounding political issues through theatre.

Theatre Uncut was established in 2010 and allows new plays to be performed anywhere in the world, completely rights free for a limited time. It is a mass action event as the 11 plays are performed simultaneously across the world.

Derby Theatre has donated space and resources to the team of young people, who will put on the short political plays written by leading playwrights.

James Varney explained: ”These plays are really powerful. They are direct responses to things we see in the news, they are for everyone. They are alive, some are funny, they are political statements and prove that theatre is a device for change.”

The event is free to attend, but a suggested donation of £4 will go to Amnesty International.
