However, unions point out that ITP Aero is also owned by Rolls-Royce and is itself up for sale, meaning there are no long-term guarantees for workers at the site as any potential new owners could decide to no longer continue production at Hucknall, leaving up to 650 staff out of a job.

Mr Spencer, however, said he had spoken to ITP Aero and he says they are optimistic for the future.

He said: “I am aware of the transfer of the Hucknall site from Rolls Royce to ITP Aero.

"I have met with ITP’s management, and they seem to be positive and optimistic about the future of the site.

"I remain in close contact with the management of both Rolls Royce and ITP Aero.

"Should any of my constituents be concerned about this, I ask them to get in touch with my office, who will be more than happy to raise their concerns with ITP management and Rolls-Royce.”
