A Level and GCSE results u-turn has been welcomed

Following national uproar, A Levels and GCSEs will now be based on teachers' assessments and the Government’s u-turn on A Level and GCSE grades has been welcomed by the Ashfield Independent Education spokesman.

Coun Samantha Deakin said: “Obviously we welcome this u-turn but this could and should have been sorted weeks ago.

"Instead, hundreds of thousands of young people have been put through the mill.

"The poorest students were downgraded in places like Ashfield and Mansfield. My council team and I received dozens of complaints from students and parents across Ashfield.

"Teachers know best and the use of an algorithm to determine results showed appalling judgement.

“I’ve had students and parents from across Ashfield on the phone in tears.

"Their hopes seemingly and cruelly taken away from them.

"Now their grades will be revisited but the whole system is in chaos.”

Despite the difficult year student numbers at Hucknall Sixth Form Centre are growing year-on-year.

Kelly Wall, head of sixth form for the National students, said: “Our students come from all over the county because of the high standards of teaching, quality outcomes for all students and our wide range of courses.

"There is still limited availability for individuals to join us from September, and I hope that our recent record-breaking A Level results show how the centre can enable all students to meet their aspirations.”
