Galaxy Cookie Crumble chocolate bars recalled

Chocolate lovers across Nottinghamshire are being warned of a possible safety issue with a particular product which has been recalled by manufacturer Mars.

Galaxy Cookie Crumble chocolate bars (114g) with a ‘best before’ end date of 16th August 2015 and batch codes PB21, PB22 and PB23 have been removed from shelves because they might contain a small piece of white plastic.

The FSA (Food Standards Agency)t has issued a Product Recall Information Notice following the company’s decision to withdraw the product as a precaution and are advising consumers not to eat this particular chocolate bar.

In a statement, Mars UK said: “Mars takes quality and food safety seriously and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to our consumers”.

No other Mars Chocolate UK products (this includes Galaxy products) are known to be affected.

Relevant wholesalers have been sent a notice to make their customers aware of the issue.

In instances like this where there is or could be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ or ‘recalled’.

The process involves he FSA issuing a Product Withdrawal Information Notice and Product Recall Information Notice to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.
