Jaguar F-Type Coupe, a Jaguar with real growl

NOT only is the stunnning Jaguar F-Type Coupe one of the most attractive and potent sports cars in the world it has what is arguably the most sensational engine exhaust sound systems on any sporting car that makes it even more exciting to drive writes Bryan Longworth.

For the massive growl from the switchable sports exhaust is simply fantastic and it starts even before the car begins moving for as soon as it fires up there is this amazing adrenalin boosting sound from the twin exhaust pipes which immediately attracts attention wherever the car is parked although the neighbours might not appreciate it for early morning starts!

On the car I sampled the F-Type Coupe with the 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine the special exhaust system was a £1,630 option but is well worth the extra money because it adds so much to the driver enjoyment of this brilliant Jag.

Jaguar obviously place considerable importance to the soundtrack of the F-Type for the first question I was asked by a company official when I returned the car to the driving base was what did I think to the sound of the engine.

I drove the convertible version of the F-Type last year but I consider the hard top on the Coupe improves the overall appearance of the car giving it even more kerb appeal and is the one I would go for.

The F-Type Coupe is available with three engines and the 335bhp unit on the car I drove is the lowest powered of the trio with this model costing £51,250 having a top speed of 151 mph and a zero to 60mph time of 5.1 seconds.

I tested the car which had an eight speed automatic gearbox on a short test route and look forward to a longer period with the coupe but in that time the blistering acceleration and handling were awesome.

However, I had to be careful when accelerating in the rear drive car because the roads were wet with heavy rain and too much power to the driven wheels especially through bends could have been a bit dodgy and I wanted to make sure the car was intact when I returned to base.

There is more space in the boot than in the convertible but if you were going for a trip to the South of France which would be my ideal journey for such a car then you could have a problem fitting in all the baggage.

This Jaguar is strictly a two seater with a very comfortable cabin so there are no rear seats to fold for extra load space which means that the boot is the only available space for baggage and shopping.

Combined fuel consumption is 32.8 mpg which means that in reality the consumption is more likely to be in the mid to upper 20s which is not unreasonable for such a car and I don’t think that will be a problem for owners who can afford to shell out over 50 grand for a motor.

The F-Type Coupe is a real style stunner and that magnificent exhaust growl and performance make it one of the world’s most desirable sports cars in keeping with the Jaguar tradition of producing great sporting cars.
