Carol, of Long Hill Rise, became a dedicated charity worker to help the desperately needy people of Bosnia after a brutal civil war broke out there in 1992.

Carol and her husband, Pete, ran the Nottingham Aid for Bosnia and Other Countries charity shop on Watnall Road, Hucknall, which was founded in 1998.

This helped many people to rebuild shattered lives.

In the space of 13 years, Carol visited Bosnia about 30 times in an attempt to ensure that the charity provided basic essentials of life.

On one trip she pressed for help to be given to a widow and five children living in a rat-infested warehouse where the roof was in danger of collapse.

She also supported a project to develop a well, providing much-needed drinking-water.

Over the years the charity shop helped to fill no fewer than 50 large containers taking aid to Africa.

Assistance was given to more than 40 countries and worthy causes in the UK, including hospitals.
