Appeal for repairs to Hucknall homes

Tenants living in blocks of flats in Hucknall have called on the Dispatch and Sherwood MP Mark Spencer to help get the area cleaned up

In an anonymous letter, together with several images, sent to the Dispatch and Mr Spencer, residents raised a number of issues plaguing their Goodall Crescent homes.

Problems include graffiti, rubbish, dog muck, broken windows, smoke damaged notice-boards and cables left hanging as well as anti-social behaviour.

Mr Spencer met with residents recently, together with a PCSO, on the estate who asked him for help to bring landlords, Ashfield Homes, to account.

“I have written to Ashfield Homes specifying a number of issues that residents raised with me,” said Mr Spencer. “The first of which is that residents were under the impression they had been promised CCTV in the area in an attempt to deter crime, however this is yet to be done.”

Residents also complained about drug-taking and motoryclists riding over the green spaces and creating a nuisance.

“Clearly these issues are not acceptable and I will do all I can to improve the area,” added the MP. “Local residents should not have to put up with this and I will continue to offer my full support to them until these issues are resolved.”

Ashfield Homes said they were aware of the housing problems raised by its tenants with Mr Spencer and were acting to rectify the situation.

“Some issues were identified following a visit by senior managers including a small number of repairs and graffiti,” said an Ashfield Homes spokesman. “These will be completed in accordance with our priority guidelines. Mr Spencer also brought to our attention a number of issues that involve other agencies, which we have undertaken to refer on.

“We remain committed to our local communities and have introduced a number of initiatives to ensure Goodall Crescent is proactively managed and maintained.”

When the Dispatch visited the area on Tuesday, three Ashfield Homes vans and employees were also on-site.

“A small number of minor remedial repairs have been identified and are in the process of completion,” added the spokesman. “A team also litter pick and generally check the area and clean the outside refuse areas three or four times a week.”
