ASBOs for thugs who plagued estate

BETTER late than never is how some residents have reacted after three Bulwell Hall Estate teenagers were given anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs).

The trio were part of a gang who caused three years of hassle on the estate, a court heard.

They are James Wright (18) and Darren Rovetto (16), of Longford Crescent, and Arron Price (18), of Hucknall Lane.

Police received 48 complaints about the youths' behaviour between January and July.

"So I am surprised that action has not been taken against them before now," said a 36-year-old man who lives on the estate's Grindon Crescent but did not want to be named.

Nottingham Magistrates Court heard that the gang vandalised CCTV cameras, urinated on garden fences, played football in the street and smashed bottles after drinking alcohol.

A spokesman for the Booze Busters off-licence on Hucknall Lane said gang members kicked the shop windows and made two young assistants feel intimidated.

Wright was said to have shouted obscene language in front of customers with young children at the nearby Choices video store.

At the Bulwell Healthy Living Centre on Hucknall Lane, Wright once said he would blow up a staff member's car.

But centre manager George Greszczuk thought this was a case of bravado rather than a serious threat after Wright was told off for leaning against the car.

"The police have done a fantastic job to deal with the problem," said Mr Greszczuk. "We now have the odd cross words with troublesome youngsters but that's about it."

An interim ASBO against the teenagers, jointly applied for by police and Nottingham City Council, was granted in July and the newly-imposed full orders will last for two years.

Rovetto and Price have additionally been charged with criminal damage after allegedly scrawling graffiti on chairs in the waiting area while at court for an interim hearing on August 29.

All three youths are now banned from going within 50 metres of Booze Busters and the Healthy Living Centre.

They must not play ball games on the highway, use or threaten violence or cause harassment, alarm or distress.
