Bestwood choir book

Helen Smith has written Bestwood Male Voice Choir, an 80 page publication enhanced by more than 40 photographs, and is is a personal tribute to her late father Frank Wright who was the last of 32 founding members of the choir which was formed in 1952.

Helen’s memories of her family, and in particular her devoted parents Frank and Doreen, are proudly shared with readers in a fascinating anthology which showcases the choir’s illustrious history through her dad’s collection of photographs and memorabilia.

Frank Wright, who passed away in March 2012, just two months before the choir’s Diamond Jubilee, worked as a miner and was the choir’s welfare officer, vice-chairman and honorary life member.

Helen,58, was a teacher in adult education and as well as donating money from the sale of the books to the choir has chosen to donate equal proceeds from its sales to the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance charity.

In May 2009, her son Jonathan was riding his motorcycle in Lincolnshire when he was involved in a very serious road accident which brought the Air Ambulance Service to the scene in minutes.

“Their quick response, expertise and swift action and treatment definitely helped to save my son’s life for which I will be eternally grateful,” explained Helen.
