Big day for Hucknall A-level students

The wait is over as Hucknall sixth-formers found out if they're going to their university of choice this week.

Students up and down the country eagerly opened their A-level results on Thursday morning (August 18) and at Holgate Academy, who’s entire group of uni hopefuls have got the places they wanted.

The small class of around 30 teenagers achieved incredibly results, with 25 per cent of grades in the high margin, of either an A* or distinction.

Student Will Humphreys, 18, said he was delighted after earning himself a place at Sheffield University studying Computer science.

He said: “I got two Bs and a distinction star and they accepted me!

“I can’t be more thankful to the school – they’ve helped everyone and it’s so demanding.

“I’m excited to get to university - I’ve not had that independence before.”

Jessica Richards, 18 said she was ‘ecstatic’ with her grades as she prepares to join Nottingham Trent in the Autumn.

She added: “I’m so happy that I’m going to the uni I wanted so it’s worked out perfectly.”

Principal Neil Holmes said: “25 per cent of our are grades are at the top level. Everybody who applied to go university has got the choice they wanted and it’s been a real celebratory day for us.

“I’m proud of them all, and I’m also proud of the hard work our teachers put in to prepare them for the exams.”

Chair of the Governors Kate Turner said: “It is good to see students doing well at the Holgate Post 16 Centre, equally as pleasing to see is that the students that have applied to university have secured their placement. Also well done to Year 12 students collecting their results today, the governors hope you are looking forward to Year 13 in the new Hucknall Sixth Form Centre. Well done to all of our students and I wish them all the luck for the future!”
