Books on Wheels is a ‘vital service’

Nottinghamshire Books on Wheels is a service run in conjunction with the Royal Voluntary Service.
They enable the district’s libraries to enter the homes of residents who can’t access the facilities in person.

“It is a vital service our volunteers provide,” said service manager, Christine Precious. “Some of our service users might not see anybody from one week to the next so as well as supplying books it is much more than that.
“Our Nottinghamshire County Books on Wheels Service is extremely popular and I am in a position that I would like to expand the current service within Hucknall,” said Christine. “ I therefore need to find new users for this service as well as volunteers.
“Our volunteers visit people to find out what kind of books they would like, through the authors or genres then collect from the library and return them to their home.

The service is provided in partnership with libraries.
“This is an invaluable outreach service and we can also help with large print and talking books too,” added Hucknall library manager Sharon Wells.
All volunteers are Disclosure and Barring Service checked.
