Care home petition‘will not be ignored’

Campaigners have been reassured that their views WILL be heard - after claims that a petition opposing the controversial closure of a care home in Ollerton might be ignored.

The claims were made by the Unison union, which said mystery surrounded the 7,000-name petition to save Bishop’s Court at Boughton.

“The signatures were handed to Nottinghamshire County Council leaders in January, yet the official feedback summary on the council’s website makes no mention of them,” said Unison spokesman Pete Watson.

“A total of 17,000 people responded to the council’s plans to close six care homes across the county.

“Most said no, so we think the council should come clean and tell the truth about what people really think.”

However, the council insisted it was listening to the protests. Coun Muriel Weisz, chair of the adult social care and health committee, said: “The petition is being considered, alongside all other feedback that we have received.

“I would like to thank everyone who has given us feedback. We will be making a decision shortly, and will keep everyone informed.”

That decision is expected on Thursday 26th February.
