Kay Jane Broughton, 44, of Fox Street, admitted using a mobile phone while driving on Kirkby Folly Road on August 9 last year.

When she was stopped officers found that her insurance was out of date.

In a letter to the court she told magistrates that the insurance was a ‘genuine mistake’ and that she needed her car for work as a home-to-home carer.

The court heard that she already had four points on her licence.

Magistrates fined her £185 for driving without insurance and ordered her to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.

They put six points on her licence but gave no separate penalty for the endorsable offence of using a handheld mobile phone while driving.
