Caring Kimberley teenager tackling coast to coast cycle challenge in aid of hospice

Alex Zowonu,13,of Truman Street ,and fellow students from the Bluecoat Academy, are in training for the gruelling Coast to Coast cycling challenge which takes place in May.

Bluecoat’s twenty strong contingent led by teacher Phil McNeill have set their sights on raising in excess of £5,000 from the initiative and sponsorship support is key to their success.

The Bluecoat fundraisers based at campuses in Wollaton and Aspley are aiming to cycle a distance of 142miles in just four days starting off in Workington on May 10th and finishing at their Sunderland destination on May 13.

Each pupil taking part is required to pay £360 to participate as well as being challenged to raise a further sum in excess of £500 each for Rainbows.

Christiana and Sam Zowonu, who are Alex’s parents, are lending positive support to their son’s efforts and urged everyone involved to “go the extra mile to help a fantastic cause.”

Friends at Kimberley’s Holy Trinity Church where Alex is a member have pledged their support and plans are in place to hold a series of events such as car boot sales, table top sales, raffles, car washing and a penalty shoot out competition.

“As a member of the 1st Nuthall Scout group Alex is no stranger to helping good causes and everyone in the local community is keen to help him achieve his goal.” said Mrs.Zowonu.
