Centre of Mansfield set to be transformed after White Hart scheme is given the green light

Councillors have unanimously approved an outline application to transform the White Hart area of Mansfield into a vibrant heritage, business and residential centre.

The White Hart Street area has been the subject to various blueprints in an effort to breathe life into the site, over the past 30 years.

There are hopes to bring key, historic buildings back in to use, bulldoze dilapidated buildings and build a combination of retail, office and residential units in their place.

Business owner and former councillor, June Stendall, who runs a bridal shop on White Hart Street, spoke in favour of the development.

She said: “It’s a massive step forward for Mansfield.

The Government funding is still available so it cold happen quicker than we thought.

“It will change the face of Mansfield.

“It’s had five planning applications in the last 30 years but I’m a firm believer that this time it could happen.

“If it doesn’t , it would be down to incompetence. We have never been in a better place.”

The Committee considered an outline application by developers Stirling Mortimer, for a mixed use development by (including the reserved matters for access, appearance, layout and scale) comprising retail units, offices, leisure, residential and public open spaces and the demolition of a number of buildings at White Hart Street/Church Street/Dame Flogan Street, Mansfield.

Coun Katrina Atherton proposed and Coun John Kerr Kerr seconded that:

(i) It be resolved to grant outline planning permission subject to conditions and a Section 106 Agreement as detailed in the report and

(ii) Delegated Authority be granted to the Head of Planning and Regulatory Services to issue the permission following the applicant having entered into a Section 106 Agreement in respect of appropriate contributions as outlined within the Planning Obligations section of the report.

Developers are now waiting in the wings and the project has been shortlisted for money from the Government initiative, the Builders’ Finance Fund.
