Chancellor backs Robin Hood line passenger plans

The Chancellor George Osborne, has confirmed his backing for plans to open a passenger service on the Robin Hood line, from Shirebrook to Ollerton, including passenger stations at Ollerton and Edwinstowe.

The Chancellor announced that he will support a bid for the project to be part-funded through a contribution from the Local Growth Fund, match funded by local authority and local partners, on a visit to Erewash in Derbyshire today.

Mr Osborne also unveiled the Conservative Plan for Working People in the East Midlands.

The Chancellor said that the plan - presented in the form of a credit-card sized pledgecard – will mean more jobs and investment in the East Midlands.

The Conservatives say they are committed to growing the region’s economy and creating 140,000 new jobs, if they win the election.
