Christmas comes to Skegby thanks to tree festival

A total of 41 trees were decorated by schools, nursing homes, church groups, local businesses and other areas of the community and then put on display in the church for the three-day long event.
Trevor Johnson, the chairman of the organising committee, said: “The whole idea was to involve as much of the community as possible.

Children from Forest Glade Primary School entertained visitors last Thursday, while youngsters from St Andrew’s Primary sang on the Friday and ladies’ choir Sempre performed on the Saturday.
The trees were arranged in themes such as ‘winter wonderland’ and ‘teddy bears’ picnic’ and Trevor said that they created quite an effect when you entered the church, especially thanks to the use of spotlights.
“It’s been an excellent event,” he added.
“Everybody who has been has been struck with it.”
Admission to the festival was free but there was a collection for a local foodbank and the homelessness charity Framework, and this raised around £400.
