Cops want to speak to key witness about fatal crash

The lorry driver stopped at the scene of the crash but left before emergency services arrived, and cops reckon he would have had a clear view of what happened.

Police want to stress he is not a suspect in the investigation, just somebody who they think will be able to help them piece together what happened.

A Subaru Impreza and Peugeot 207 crashed on the A6002 Low Wood Road at around 7.30pm on June 17.

James Horton from Warsop, a passenger in the Peugeot, was killed in the collision and the drivers of both vehicles needed hospital treatment.

The lorry driver, who was travelling directly behind, was wearing glasses and a black ‘Everlast’ T-shirt with yellow lettering.

He was driving an HGV with a white cab and a blue curtain-sided trailer along the A6002 towards the M1.

A spokesprson for Nottinghamshire Police said: “It is believed he will have had a clear view of the collision and will have vital information which can help the investigation.”

Police have arrested a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and a 37-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

All have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Ged Hazelwood said: “Someone has lost their life as a result of this crash, and two others have been injured.

“It is essential for them and their families that we can carry out the fullest investigating we can to establish what exactly happened.

“We can’t stress enough how important it is that motorists who saw what happened on Friday and have not yet spoken to the police make contact with us at the earliest opportunity.”

The crash happened close to the junction with Apollo Drive.

The road was closed for more than seven hours following the crash.
