Couple devastated after late father's car was stolen after his home was ransacked in Hucknall

The couple went to his address in Lime Tree Road on the morning of Wednesday, September 9, to collect some items when they noticed the car was missing.

They then discovered the back door to the property had been kicked in and an untidy search of the property had been carried out.

A suspect was arrested on later that day on suspicion of burglary after officers attended a report of a man who was passed out in a parked car in Sellers Wood Road West in Bulwell.

The car had its engine running and the front lights were on, with a man found slumped in the driver’s seat.

After officers turned the engine off and got the man out of the car he was arrested on suspicion of possessing suspected Class A drugs and being in charge of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

The officers asked the man for his details and he handed over his wallet containing a provisional driving licence.

Further enquiries were carried out which revealed that the car he was found in had been allegedly stolen during the Hucknall burglary.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "It's despicable that someone seized the opportunity to target the home and vehicle of someone who had recently died.

"It must have been devastating when his grieving loved ones realised what had happened.

"I'm pleased that following some good police work we arrested a suspect who has been questioned.

"I'd like to reassure the public that Nottinghamshire Police treats burglary and drug offences very seriously.

"We will thoroughly investigate reports and gather all available evidence as we progress with our investigations."
