Kelly Marsh stole £1,218 of items from Debenhams and Boots, in August and September this year, Nottingham Crown Court was told on Thursday, November 12.

The spree began shortly after she was released from prison, on August 17, and she was arrested on September 14.

Digby Johnson, mitigating, said Marsh was waiting for funding to attend a residential rehabilitation course, and has so far spent 59 days in custody.

Marsh, 39, of Fenton Drive, Bulwell, pleaded guilty to ten counts of shoplifting, when she appeared in court.

Judge Julie Warburton told her: "You obviously have many difficulties in your life.

"On this occasion I have been told the offending was borne out of desperation after your release from custody."

Marsh has had a "long-term drug addiction from when she was very young," which she needs to break, the judge said, but with the right help and support this was possible.

"I think you have been dealt something of a bad hand in life. Any further offending will result in you being brought back to court and sent to prison.

"This order will be monitored and your progress will be reviewed."

Judge Warburton revoked the conditional discharge and imposed an 18-month community order, with 25 rehabilitation days and a nine-month drug programme.
