Double celebration for teaching assistant

Pupils and staff at a Rainworth school have paid tribute to their teaching assistant for her 13 years of service.

Margaret Hammond may just have turned 80 but she has no plans of giving up her beloved classroom assistant role at Lake View Primary School just yet.

Staff and pupils held a special assembly for Mrs Hammond to mark her birthday and 13 years of service.

Pupils Braiden Lee (9), Marny Persaud (10) and Callum Cotterill, told Chad why Mrs Hammond is important to them.

Braiden said he looks forward to hearing about Mrs Hammond’s Victorian stories each week, a topic in which she is knowledgeable.

“Mrs Hammond knows lots about Victorian times and she always brings us old things in to show and tell us.

“I find it really interesting,” He said.

Callum added: “Mrs Hammond is cherished because she gets up and goes out of her way from what she normally does to come and see us on a Tuesday.”

Mrs Hammond was presented with flowers, balloons and some handmade flowers made by the children.

She said: “I love coming in to school once a week to help out.

“I think one of the most important things for children is that they learn their times tables and they are well mannered.”

The thank you assembly was held on 29th October at the Rainworth school.
