Children from around the district have impressed members of Breathe Easy, a British Lung Foundation group, by fundraising for the charity over the past year.

They have helped out om stalls at fundraising events in the community, as well as distributing flyers to promote the group.

Chairman of the group, Jane Reeve, said that some of the children who helped out have done it because their parents and grandparents suffer with lung conditions and breathing problems.

He said: “They are keen to contribute to help sufferers cope with their conditions.”

Selston High School scholar Luke Aldred, 14, whose mum is a nurse, has been helping to support the group with his sister and a few friends.

He said: “It is very rewarding to know that the time and effort we have put in is appreciated.”

Teresa Burgoyne, a leading light at Breathe Easy, said: “We have sent out letters to several youngsters who are championing our cause.

“The letters of thanks could help them when they seek employment or wish to do part time work.”

Breathe Easy groups provide support and information for people living with lung conditions, and those who care for them.

They hold regular meetings for people to talk to eachother so share their experiences and learn from eachother.

The Breathe Easy Nottinghamshire West group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at the Hilltop Catholic Church Centre from 1.30-3.30pm.

They also run respiratory exercise classes every Tuesday morning from 11am at Plumptre Hall, Eastwood.

The group are always encouraging new members.
