Fire service opens applications for on-call firefighter roles in Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has opened applications for on-call firefighters.

Members of its community can now apply if they live or work within five minutes of one of the 16 on-call fire stations in the region.

The firefighters around the county provide hours worth of availability each week, giving 24/7 emergency cover, all whilst fitting their on-call firefighting role around other commitments including primary employment and family life.

On-call firefighters are paid to respond to emergencies, whatever time of the day, and are notified by a personal pager which is carried with them whenever on duty - they must then be able to respond to their local fire station within minutes to be able to attend incidents and ultimately, help the communities of Nottinghamshire. They're also paid to train each week, and when required, carry out work within their local community.
