Facilities not good enough to cope with more people

SURPRISE, surprise. The Wigwam Lane playing fields in Hucknall are to have houses built on them. This is a disgraceful decision.

That's more of Hucknall's green land gone. But the government constantly go on about child obesity.

I would have liked to have seen more fight from our councillors and MP, not just over the Wigwam but also the other thousands of houses being built on Hucknall's green land.

What annoys me is that other parts of Ashfield have got away with it. There's more fight in Scooby and Scrappy Doo than in any of this mob.

The problem with more people is the lack of facilities in Hucknall, especially on High Street.

It's time to cut the rent and council tax etc to help local trades and attract nationwide businesses to fill the many empty buildings and attract a lot more people to High Street.

Yes I know we have a big business in Tesco that employs a lot of Hucknall people. But being labelled another 'Tesco Town' is boring. I personally would rather shop for my groceries on High Street.

Not only does High Street need more clothing outlets, it also needs more entertainment facilities, such as restaurants, bars and bowling alleys.

People might think I am going over the top but last month, I went to Hamburg with friends for a weekend and in the EasyJet plane's in-flight magazine, they recommended that tourists landing at East Midlands Airport visit the Hucknall Heritage Trail.

I must admit my friends and I had a good laugh at that. However fair play to the Hucknall tourist people for advertising.

But while improvement is needed for the tourists, at least they will get to meet friendly people!

Also, facilities like Hucknall Leisure Centre need improving. They say they are spending 200,000 but that's nowhere near enough,. Make it a few million.

Like the rest of England, the population in Hucknall is exploding with the influx of people from other European countries and further afield.

People should be able to work overseas and we do need some of these people to do jobs some of our people can't be bothered to do because of easy dole money.

And a lot of these people are simply travelling. I can't fault them. That's why Judith Chalmers is a hero of mine!

However the government have let way too many of these people in now. It's gone crazy!

With the government's soft approach to crime, I think one day there will be a revolution in this country.

Mind you, don't expect Che Guevara. Probably more like Citizen Smith! Power to the people!
