Festival brings community together

And despite the changeable weather the atmosphere at the Chapel Farm event was consistently sunny.

With various music to suit all tastes, from a Green Day tribute band to Irish folk, and the smell of sizzling burgers drifting in the air, revellers made the most of the festive fun.

Farm owner David Chapelhow said Wellowfest showed how closely knit the community was and how important small businesses were to rural communities.

He added: “It was refreshing to see children running about enjoying the music and fresh air, with the feel of a traditional village fete.

“The whole focus of the festival was good music, good local food suppliers and local brewers.

“But the most important part was just having a good time and taking advantage of the opportunity to form relationships with more people in the community.”

Sherwood MP Mark Spencer MP also popped in for a drink and to show his support form small business in rural communities.

He said: “This type of event makes people aware of the diversity of employment opportunities in the country side and how we have a responsibility to support them.”

The event also raised more than £600 for the Newark Patriotic Fund, which helps support injured personnel and their families.
