Help the police to cut crime, council chief

Speaking during a recent council meeting Mr Beeston urged residents to work with police to help slash crime in the area.

He said: “Residents need to take the initiative in this matter.

“The police need to know of any offences committed, otherwise there is nothing they can do about it.

“The more calls the police receive, the greater the chance of them drafting officers into the area to tackle problems.”

The council were told there had been a ‘spate’ of burglaries on Moor Road and two suspects had been arrested in connection with the break-ins. Recent offences have also included a brick being thrown through a window.

Coun Beeston said: “I would like to see a bigger police presence in Bestwood at night time.”

The council are calling on police to look into a danger of accidents on a wide pavement on the village’s Park Road.

It was claimed that motorists used an unadopted road crossing the pavement and a car could hit a child running along the causeway on the way to school.
