Over 20 members from the 1st Hucknall group were treated to a tour from acting director Janet Archer who explained briefly the parts of the eye before a picture was taken of the back of each youngsters’ eyes and optometrist Stephen Archer showed them the test room.

“It’s the first time we have held an event like this in store and it was a great night for us all,” said Janet. “The group also took part in a little quiz about amazing eye facts and went home with a goody bag each as a memento of their visit.”

The aim of the exercise was to raise awareness in youngsters of how important it is to get their eye-sight checked. Statistics reveal that even though 90 per cent of children visit a dentist regularly, only 53 per cent of children have ever had an eye examination.

“We are delighted to engage with the community like this and if any other similar groups would like to visit, we would welcome them.”
