Leisure centre gets council cash boost

Users of Hucknall Leisure Centre can enjoy new and improved facilities following a cash boost from the council.

Ashfield District Council has funded and managed the works which have been overseen by leisure operators, Everyone Active.

Improvements include a new floor, ceiling, lighting and doors in the existing sports hall.

The changes will enable the centre to host a range of new activities alongside the existing programme including roller skating and a brand new gymnastics class run by British Gymnastics.

Helen Bower, general manager for Everyone Active at Hucknall Leisure Centre, said: “We all worked flat out to get everything finished before the Christmas period so that we are ready to offer a range of new activities for the local community in the New Year including gymnastics and trampolining.”

Coun Chris Baron, the leader of Ashfield District Council, said the undisclosed funding boost would offer a positive improvement to the community.

“Hucknall Leisure Centre is an important venue for our community to partake in sport and physical activity and I am pleased that we have been able to fund these improvements to such a high standard,” he said.

The sports hall will accommodate gymnastics, trampolining, roller skating, five a side football, badminton, table tennis, short tennis, children’s parties, Active Antz, holiday and club activities, the 50+ programme as well as a range of community events.

In February a brand new gymnastics course will be starting run by British Gymnastics. There will be a number of taster sessions held in January which will be pre-publicised by the leisure centre through the website and facebook pages.
