Mansfield bus station celebrates a successful first year

MANSFIELD’S new £9m bus station is celebrating its first Christmas – and staff have been putting the finishing touches to decorations to put passengers in a festive frame of mind.

The new building opened its doors to the public in March and it’s estimated that by Christmas Day that more than 3.5 million customers will have passed through its doors and more than 226,000 bus departures will have been made.

“It’s been a fantastic first eight months for us,” said station manager Elliott Mizen.

“We’ve had really good feedback from people using the bus station and we’re all looking forward to bringing a bit of Christmas cheer to our passengers as they pass through.”

The new bus station is fully enclosed and has a comfortable waiting area with plenty of seating, toilets, a baby changing area, shop and café.

It also boasts a staffed travel information office, electronic timetable information, CCTV cameras linked to the town centre system and automatic doors separating the waiting passengers from buses.

It also has a high-tech video wall for use by local businesses and community groups and which will help provide local information on a variety of subjects.
