Mansfield firm develop sportswear for stars

A fabric produced by Mansfield sportswear manufacturer Kurio Performance and put through its paces by textile researchers at Nottingham Trent University is aiming to boost the performance of elite athletes.

Technical textiles engineer and postgraduate researcher Anura Rathnayake prepares to put Kurios fabric through its paces.

The specialist firm is producing compression clothing which they say helps performance and speeds recovery by improving blood flow to the muscles.

Current customers of Kurio, based on Oakham Business Park, already include ice hockey players – such as Nottingham Panthers captain David Clarke and Sheffield Steelers’ Danny Meyers – rugby league players and Premier League footballers.

“By tailoring the cut of the fabric according to measurements taken, we are able to maintain the optimum level of compression,” said Kurio director David Hallam.

Clarke said: “After a hard training session or games I sleep in the recovery leggings and I do not suffer any soreness the next day.”
